The ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) program provides an opportunity for professionals in the arboriculture industry to expand their knowledge through education and training in the fundamentals of tree risk assessment. This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity.
The qualification consists of a 2-day educational course followed by a ½ day assessment that includes both a written and field component. It is required that you attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to receive this qualification. Cert Exam Chapter is Sweden. CEUs are available
Attendees have the opportunity to take part in several conference tours. Pre-Conference tours take place on Sunday, 11 September. There are also opportunities to take a tour during the conference on both Monday, 12 September and Wednesday, 14 September.

Research of the few independent bio-mechanical scientists clearly confirmed that the corresponding standards and BMPs have to be changed because the two methods, commonly recommended and used (VTA and SIA) are either inapplicable or fundamentally wrong for evaluating the breaking safety of defective stems of mature urban trees: the practical application of these methods far too often drives such trees into a deadly and costly downward spiral, unnecessarily destroying benefits of urban green and ecologically important habitats. This is why we developed an alternative method that avoids the systematic errors of the established methods, such as external reference values, fixed thresholds, wind load assessment and absolute numbers. Instead, the (previously intact) tree itself is used as the one and only reference because the tree knows its wind-load the best and reflects this load in allometric parameters, such as height and diameter. Practical application proves that the bio-mechanically grounded concept of "Tree-Self-Referencing" allows a quicker, cheaper and more reliable evaluation of breaking safety of defective tree trunks. Karl J. Niklas (Cornell University, NY), the world leading scientist in tree-bio-mechanics: “[Tree Safety] Self Referencing is without doubt the most elegant method to determine breakage safety of defective tree stems, far above other methods and totally defensible in court".

Tour some of the most interesting diverse tree plantings, green infrastructure, and sites in the conference host city of Malmö. This walking tour will showcase sites such as Neptunigatan, a blue-green street with rain beds that enable local delay and purification of stormwater and ending in Folkets Park- a recreational park which often showcases art programs, animal exhibits, and cultural events. Here attendees will see a project called "Grönare Möllan" which was completed in 2021. Here 150 trees were planted to raise the canopy cover in the area. A lot of the trees' structural soils are also connected to the downpipes from adjacent roofs leading rainwater from the buildings to the trees.
Extensive walking is required for this tour.
