MITRE’s Center for Data Privacy & Protection will mark Data Privacy Day 2024 by bringing together top thought leaders to discuss their predictions for trends in the privacy arena for 2024.

Join us on Friday, January 26 from 12:00-1:00pm for a virtual event, convening government, academic, and private-sector experts for a conversation on forecasting the most important data privacy trends for the new year.

Data Privacy Day is an annual global celebration held on January 28 to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices.  Since the world first recognized this day nearly 20 years ago, both the public and private sectors have become far more focused on data privacy issues.  For the public sector, there is an expectation that public trust can be maintained through responsible data protection policies. For the private sector, there is an expectation that consumers’ data will be handled responsibly and securely.  These goals are achievable, but the ever-evolving advances of society and technology often makes success challenging.

The uncertainty and complexity of addressing some of the most pressing issues in the data privacy world today will be explored further by our panel.  Will there finally be a national consumer privacy protection law? How can we ensure that new technologies come pre-built with privacy enabled frameworks? What role will the United States play in the debate on AI governance? Can we find a right balance between protecting an individual’s privacy and ensuring our national security interests?  These questions and more will be explored in an effort to prepare us for an exciting year ahead on the data privacy stage.
