Historic Toronto: A City Tour
Accompanied by well-known Toronto historian and guide Bruce Bell, you’ll experience many of Toronto’s most notable and historic sites. This informative and refreshing tour is not just for visitors to Toronto – even locals will be charmed and fascinated by the interesting facts you’ll uncover during your adventure.
You’ll board our private coach for a sight-seeing tour of all the major sites in downtown Toronto, including a stop at the historic Evergreen Brick Works and a stop for photos at City Hall with its iconic TORONTO sign. The adventure will include a drive through Chinatown, Liberty Village and the Harbourfront, and you’ll see for yourself why Toronto is called the City of Neighbourhoods.
The tour will continue with a visit to the St Lawrence Market. Along the way, Bruce will point out some of the city’s most historic landmarks, the St James Cathedral, the famous “Flatiron” Building and St Lawrence Hall.
A highlight of the tour will be your visit to the St. Lawrence Market which dates back to 1803 and is still ranked #1 on National Geographic's top 10 list of world markets. There you’ll sample some of the market’s most scrumptious specialties: pea meal bacon sandwiches, Canadian cheese; crunchy caramel brownies; famous, freshly-baked St Urbain’s bagels; hand-made perogies (voted the best in Toronto by Toronto Life Magazine) and the most Canadian of all sweets - the butter tart!
The tour will end at the famous Distillery District, an internationally acclaimed pedestrian-only village which features more than 70 ground-floor cultural and retail establishments in the restored red brick, Victorian-era buildings of the renowned Gooderham & Worts whisky distillery. Opened to the public in 2003, the Distillery District is widely regarded as Canada’s premier arts, culture and entertainment destination. It’s a dramatic fusion of old and new, where an inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture blends with stunning 21st century design and creativity.
You’ll be shown around the Distillery and learn some amazing historical facts, after which there'll be leisure time for shopping before you return to the hotel.
