Cultural Toronto: A Matinée at the Theatre

Toronto’s theatre scene is one of the most vibrant in North America and home to two of the hottest shows currently on stage.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
It's Time to Believe in Magic! A newly staged, one show magical experience is now on stage at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been boldly restaged as one singular performance by the award-winning creative team. With just one ticket in hand, audiences will enjoy all the adventure the continuation of Harry's story entails in one magical afternoon.

19 years after Harry, Ron and Hermione saved the wizarding world, they’re back on a most extraordinary new adventure – this time, joined by a brave new generation that has only just arrived at the legendary Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Prepare for spectacular spells, a mind-blowing race through time, and an epic battle to stop mysterious forces, all while the future hangs in the balance.

Note: the show runs 3 hours 20 minutes (includes intermission) and involves theatrical haze and fog, open flame and loud noises.

Mean Girls
Direct from Broadway, Mean Girls is the hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team, including book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. Soon, this naïve newbie falls prey to a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Note: the show runs 2 hours 30 minutes (includes intermission) and involves theatrical haze and fog.
