Recommended Attire
Below are the guidelines for recommended attire. To assist with your packing and attire selection for each event, please refer to the Daily Agenda for event-specific recommended attire.
If you are participating in an activity that involves walking, comfortable waterproof walking shoes or boots are recommended.
Casual attire is acceptable for informal daytime events and refers to clothing that is comfortable and appropriate to the setting and the occasion. This consists of jeans, casual pants, t-shirts, golf shirts, or skirts.
Smart Casual attire is recommended for evening events. This is a cut above very casual clothing and consists of a smart pair of pants, nice top, a collared shirt or golf shirt, skirt or a dress. A warm jacket, sweater or wrap is recommended for the evenings.
Cocktail attire is recommended for the recognition evening. This consists of dress pants and a jacket, cocktail dress, pants suit, blouse and skirt or pants. Note: you will have your photo taken with your senior executive and other recipients this evening, followed by dinner at a fine dining restaurant. Please dress suitably for the evening (in whatever will make you feel most comfortable and relaxed to enjoy this evening).
Formal attire (Tuxedos are not required) is recommended for the gala evening. This is more dressy than cocktail attire but similarly consists of dress pants and a jacket and tie, a dress, pants suit, blouse and skirt or pants.
Examples of the above attire include:
Gratuities
All gratuities for planned Vision in Action celebration events have been prepaid. This includes tips for porters, wait-staff and bellmen. Gratuities for personal activities, such as housekeeping, room service and bar service at the hotel bars, are not included and are at your personal discretion. As a guide, a suitable gratuity for housekeeping staff would be $5.00 per room, per day; and for bar staff, a 15% gratuity would be in order.
Hospitality Desk
Throughout your stay in Toronto, the Vision in Action Hospitality Desk will be available. Should you have any questions or specific needs during your stay, The Farm Events team will be pleased to assist you.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: The Hospitality Desk will be located on the Convention Level of the hotel and will be open from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
In case of an emergency outside of these hours, please contact Annalise Rickman from The Farm Events team at +1 (647) 808-5786.
Incidental Expenses
The hotel will maintain an incidental account to cover your personal expenses, such as telephone calls, room service, mini-bar charges, etc. Upon check in, you will be required to provide your credit card to establish your personal incidental account. The hotel will hold the amount of CAD$300.00 on your card. You will be responsible for settling this account (if applicable) before you leave the hotel.
Name Badges
You and your guest will be provided with name badges upon your arrival at the hotel. Please be sure you and your guest wear them at all planned events so that we can easily identify you as VIA participants.
When you and / or your guest are outside the hotel for planned activities or during your leisure time, please remove your name badge(s) as a safety precaution.
TD & VIA’s Commitment to the Environment
The Vision in Action program has made great strides in recent years toward providing a more environmentally friendly celebration and we remain committed to doing our part to protect the environment. We are, wherever possible, eliminating paper and single-use plastic, reducing waste, reusing and recycling, conserving energy and water, and choosing sustainable products. We always strive to make choices that are good for us and good for the environment. These choices include partnering with vendors who share our values.
To further align with TD's commitment to the environment, we strongly encourage recipients and their guests to bring a refillable water bottle with them for use throughout the event.
For more than 25 years, Fairmont has been an environmental leader among eco-friendly hotels. As one of the first luxury hotel brands to achieve emission reduction targets, the hotel has embraced the Planet 21 initiatives developed by its parent company, Accor.
The Fairmont brand has a long-term strategy for environmental responsibility. In 2019, they signed up for the UN’s Act Now initiative designed to raise awareness, ambition, and action around climate change. The aim is to educate and encourage individual actions for climate, mainly by adjusting consumption patterns.
A proud supporter of the #ActNow campaign, The Fairmont Royal York believes in positive hospitality and that every action matters towards ensuring long-term sustainability and stewardship of the planet. As a result, the hotel recently achieved the highest possible ranking for their sustainable development program, part of Planet 21.
Under the City of Toronto’s ICI Water Saver Program, industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors are rewarded for demonstrated water savings. In 2005, the hotel installed a commercial water softener that reduced water use in the laundry to one wash and one rinse per cycle, saving 476,000 litres of water per day - enough water to supply 500 homes!
The Fairmont knows how to “Bee Sustainable”. The Royal York is the pioneer of Hotel Rooftop Apiaries. They have seven hives that produce almost 400lbs of honey each year. Their award-winning rooftop honey is used in many of their culinary programs, including Afternoon Tea, Banquet menus, hand-crafted cocktails and their very own Mill Street Apiary Ale.
Located 14 stories high - 200 feet above ground - lies an outdoor urban oasis, a high-rise herbarium, where the Fairmont Royal York's garden grows. On any summer's day, Chef jW Foster and the Planet 21 Team can be seen nurturing and tending to the vast variety of organic produce and herbs that are cared for, without the use of herbicides and pesticides, on the hotel’s rooftop. With over 45 different types of herbs and vegetables, one is sure to enhance your plate or garnish your cocktail at one of your events.
Sustainability is “on the menu” at the Fairmont Royal York. The philosophies of “nose to tail” and “hug your farmer” define Chef jW Foster's culinary vision. jW works closely with Ontario farmers to showcase seasonal and locally-sourced menu items in our dining venues. The Culinary Team is also committed to offering 100% Ocean Wise menus of sustainable seafood choices, that will keep ocean life healthy and abundant for many generations to come.
The Fairmont Royal York Hotel is proud to be recognized as having one of the most comprehensive eco-friendly programs in the North American hotel industry.
One Wish at a Time
Every year, The Fairmont Royal York hosts and participates in Trees of Hope and Wish Month in support of Make-a-Wish Canada. Together with local corporate sponsorship, children with life-threatening illnesses are granted their most heartfelt wish. From magical family vacations, to meeting their heroes, to living out their dream job, it is their mission to bring a sense of hope and happiness, one wish at a time.
