Frequently Asked QuestionsSupport

Is there an application requirement for this program?

Yes. We require that all students apply for their course of interest by submitting supplemental materials before registration. The materials will be used in the following ways:

  • Reviewed for placement into appropriate levels, if needed.
  • Shared with the course instructor(s) so they may prepare curriculum that meets the needs and goals of each student.

Students applying for our Drawing/Painting courses must answer a series of questions and submit three (3) recent artworks ⎼ at least one drawing and one painting ⎼ that are representative of their current skill level. Artworks should be uploaded as JPG or PDF files.

Once all materials are received and reviewed, students will receive an email with a link to register for the course.

Are materials included with my registration?

Yes. Students in both Drawing/Painting: Beginner and Advanced classes will receive all of the materials they will need on the first day of class.

What mediums will I be working with in class?

While this changes each summer depending on the instructor, students will typically work with pencil and charchoal for drawing and acrylics for painting.

I am putting together a portfolio for my college applications. Will this program help me build my portfolio?

Yes. The final projects you complete during your Academy can certainly be used for your college portfolio and will be showcased in a culminating exhibition on the final day.

Artist Support

These last two years have been difficult for all of us in many ways.  The arts have been hit particularly hard because so much of the work we do requires physical closeness and interaction.  While prioritizing the health and safety of our participants, instructors, and staff, we also need to support our community of artists.

For that reason, we are excited to offer the Summer Academies in the Arts program once again!  It provides advanced young artists the tools they will need as they develop their technical and artistic skills in preparation for applications and audition material for college and career pursuits.  It also provides much needed employment for our team of instructors ⎼ practicing artists themselves ⎼ who saw many of their commissions, gigs, and contracts cancelled.

If you are able, please consider making a gift of any amount to support the Summer Academies in the Arts program.  Your contribution will make a significant impact by supporting the artists who make it possible.
