About the Event
The 10th Symposium on Roofing Research and Standards Development will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing, the symposium will be held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC in conjunction with the December standards development meetings of the committee.
Objective and Scope
The symposium provides a forum for contributing to the fundamental understanding of acceptable roof performance, with the primary emphasis being current research and development work. The symposium will center on the influence of both laboratory and field investigations in the development of standards for roofing and waterproofing materials and systems.
The symposium is intended to address topics describing research and standards development for both low-sloped and steep roofing systems including the following:
- Polymer-modified and conventional built-up bituminous roofing
- Synthetic single-ply roofing systems
- Self-adhesive membrane roofing
- Liquid-applied membrane roofing
- Spray polyurethane foam roofing systems
- Metal roofing systems
- Roof edge systems
- Performance of shingles, tiles and other steep roof coverings
- Wind and fire resistance
- Moisture in concrete roofing systems
- Air and moisture movement in roofing systems
- Air barriers and their tie-in to the building air barrier system
- Cool roofing, vegetative (green) roofing and solar
- Thermal performance and energy efficient roofing
- Technology of roof coatings
- Hygrothermal simulations/ modeling
- Roof system durability and service life prediction
- Roofing in an era of sustainability and resiliency
- Roofing retrofit
- Advances in waterproofing
- Advances in adhesion technology for synthetic and bituminous roofing
- Advances in low-sloped roofing and its components
The targeted audience is all roofing professionals, including contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, building owners, researchers, technologists, technicians, sales and marketing personnel, product development specialists, and insurers.

Continuing Education Units
Symposium attendees interested in receiving 0.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must complete the CEU application form in the back of the program booklet and submit it to an ASTM staff member on site. You must be registered and have attended the entire event in order to receive the CEU’s. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 2 to 4 weeks after the symposium concludes.

The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than November 1st, 2023. The ASTM rate is $209 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full. The Washington Hilton Hotel has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate. The government per diem rates are set by fiscal year, effective October 1 each year; you will be charged the prevailing rate at the time of the meeting, not at the time of booking. You must present your ID at the front desk upon check-in.
CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: A credit card it is required to guarantee your reservation. Cancellations made within 72 hours of arrival will forfeit one night's room and tax.
IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through an online travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if the accommodations were reserved via an online (Expedia, Trivago, Kayak, etc.) travel agency.
The December Committee Week Hotel provides prime meeting space for your committee meetings, events, and activities. ASTM International is legally bound to fill the contracted guest room block and an inability to fill the block will result in severe financial penalties which could affect negotiations and increase costs for future meetings.

Standards Development Meetings
The ASTM sponsoring committee invites you to attend their future standards development meetings.
