2022 Global Alumni Case Competition

Eligibility & Rules
 

Registration:

  • Competition registration is capped at 15 participating teams/individuals
  • Teams should be composed of no more than 4 people
  • Every member of the team must be a confirmed, verified UConn alum
  • Alum can register as a team, free agent (and be placed on a team), or compete individually
  • All UConn alum are eligible to participate
  • Every team will be required to submit a brief team charter.

Presentations:

  • Each team will sign up for a 10 minute presentation time slot to prior to February 25th
  • Presentations should be 6-8 minutes in length
  • The final presentations will be done virtually via Zoom utilizing the Screen Share function. Be sure to check functionality prior to your scheduled presentation time!
  • Please submit your slides in PDF format to jillian.comolli@uconn.edu no later than March 1st

    Important Dates:

    • Case Kick Off: February 16, 2022

    • Presentation Timeslot Selection Deadline: February 25, 2022

    • Presentation Submission Deadline: March 1, 2022

    • Final Presentations: March 3, 2022 

    Judging Criteria
     

    A: Analysis of the fit of the new idea with current structure, culture and practices at ConnectUs

    • Comprehensive analysis of how the current structure and culture support the growth goal and any incongruencies that may be created by the implementation of your proposal
    • Justification of your recommendations that address the fit/misfit between the current structure/culture and the idea/recommendations for growth that you suggest

    B: Clarity and feasibility of recommended solution

    • The solution is clear and feasible
    • Evidence (either from industry, scholarly research, or both) suggests that it would work
    • Specific information about the organization is integrated to create a coherent, logical, and persuasive strategy
    • Feasibility and ease of implementation of the solution for Connect-Us

    C: Comprehensiveness and effectiveness of action plan

    • The developed action plan is sufficiently detailed such that it could be implemented immediately
    • It takes into account and references the organizational behavior or people management factors that may facilitate or hinder the implementation

    D: Delivery Quality & Creativity- Structure & Interpersonal Communications

    • Organized and logical flow of sections and ideas, structure of strategy easy to follow
    • Appropriate use of media and other visual aids to support speakers remarks
    • Strong response to questions
    • Professional and confident
    • Creativity and originality of the idea for growth

    What is a Case Competition?
     

    An academic competition where you have the opportunity to step into the role of a consultant and help a company or non-profit tackle business and organizational challenges. Each team will develop a strategy to address the key issues of the case and present them to a team of judges. The team that presents the best solution wins the competition. Prior experience in consulting not required!

    January 31st: Team Registration Closes

    February 7th:Teams Announced

    February 14th:  Individual Registration Closes

    February 16th: Virtual Kick-Off & Case Presentation 
    6:30 PM (ET)


    March 3rd: Virtual Final Presentations & Winner Chosen 5:30 PM (ET)

     

    What to Expect

    You and your team will be working to provide actionable guidance to a Connecticut non-profit. At the end of the competition, a successful team will have provided the non-profit with an implementable strategy based on the questions outlined in the given case. How much time your team commits to crafting a solution is up to you. Remember- whether you win or lose, even a piece of your strategy has the chance to help a member of the community, so make it count!
