LEARNING OBJECTIVES


At the end of this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Describe new technologies and new methods of using current technology that improve consistency in patient outcomes for common hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries
  • Identify regional surgeons and centers of excellence for potential surgery specialty referrals
  • Assess key indications and contraindications for surgical treatment of complex upper extremity problems, including hand transplantation, forearm tissue defects, SLAC wrist, conditions for fixing rotator cuffs, and MRI applications
  • Demonstrate increased capacity to use the SCPMG upper extremity surgeon’s network to learn about effective treatment approaches for hand, elbow, wrist, and shoulder injuries used by other orthopedic surgeons at Kaiser Permanente
  • Integrate the most current evidence-based surgical strategies for treating upper extremity pathology such as osteochondritis dissecans, instability, and arthritis
  • Collaborate and communicate with orthopedic specialists to contribute to ongoing registry projects and collection of patient outcomes data designed to standardize patient care
