Growing together

Our first digital symposium on Indigenous economies

The Bank of Canada, in partnership with the Tulo Centre of Indigenous Economics and Te Putea Matua (Reserve Bank of New Zealand), look forward to hosting the inaugural symposium this year.

The symposium is an international gathering of Indigenous and non-Indigenous economists, researchers and experts who are working together to:

  • discuss Indigenous economics from Canadian and international perspectives
  • understand how Indigenous economies have been disrupted by colonization
  • highlight the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to our economies
  • uncover the unique cultural, institutional and historical contexts defining the path to economic prosperity
  • learn how Indigenous peoples operate in accordance with traditional worldviews while meeting the challenge of modern economies
  • explore how central banks can incorporate this knowledge into their policy decisions

The goal of the symposium is to facilitate discussion and identify priority issues, enabling us to work together with our Indigenous partners to support progress where it is most needed.
