Tuesday Major Session: Changing the Landscape of Waste sponsored by Kuehne + Nagel
Tuesday, September 20, 2022 | 8:00 am - 9:15 am
Tom Szaky
CEO and Founder
TerraCycle
Tom Szaky is founder and CEO of TerraCycle, a global leader in the collection and repurposing of complex waste streams. TerraCycle operates in 21 countries, working with some of the world’s largest brands, retailers and manufacturers to create national platforms to recycle products and packaging that currently go to landfill or incineration.
Through TerraCycle, Tom is creating circular solutions for hundreds of waste streams such as cigarette butts, dirty diapers and used chewing gum that otherwise have no path to be recycled. TerraCycle operates the largest supply chain for ocean plastic in the world, partnering with companies to integrate this material into their packaging.
In January 2019, TerraCycle, along with 25 top consumer products companies and retailers announced a new e-commerce shopping platform called Loop that will enable consumers to shop for some of their favorite brands in durable, reusable packaging. Loop is a key step in helping to end the epidemic of waste that is caused by 'single use' consumption.
Wednesday Closing Session: Pandemic to Endemic-Leading Through Uncertainty sponsored by TriumphPay
Wednesday, September 21, 2022 | 10:00 am - 11:15 am
Jim Cafone
VP, Global Supply chain
Pfizer
In February 2020 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla asked his employees, “If not us, then who?” and then directed his teams to “…make the impossible possible” to create the first FDA-approved Covid-19 vaccine. Months later the Comirnaty® vaccine was a solution the world was waiting for, to save lives and support the return to “normalcy.”
But how did this pharma giant quickly pivot, adjust, manufacture and distribute billions of doses during a pandemic? At a time in economic history, when the phrase “supply chain” may receive less than positive opinions, Pfizer was named number six among the top global supply chains. This session will focus on changes the company has implemented during times of uncertainty to continue to deliver breakthroughs for patients around the world.
