Welcome to the 2022 AFCA
Battalion Chief Academy


The Arizona Fire Chiefs Association is pleased to offer the Battalion Chief Academy for 2022. Program attendance is limited so we encourage you to register early. Program content is designed to help the new or future Battalion Chief be successful both administratively and on the incident scene.

The program target audience is newly promoted Battalion Chiefs or senior level company officers seeking to promote to Battalion Chief in the near future.  Sessions will be presented by a variety of speakers, many of whom are fire service leadership presenters at the national level.  Please see below for program specifics and contact information should you need additional information.

Registration cost for the Academy is $525 for non-members and $475 for AFCA members whose dues are current for 2022.  Registration fee includes all course materials and light snacks during the session. Participants are on their own for lunch and there are a number of eating establishments within a short drive of the session location.

Class size is limited to 50 students so participants are encouraged to register early.

The 2022 Battalion Chief Academy, sponsored by the Arizona Fire Chiefs Association consists of 8 one-day sessions which will be offered on the following dates:

October 19 & 20
October 26 & 27
November 2 & 3
November 9 & 10

Each session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. and
you must attend all sessions to successfully complete the Academy.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the 2022 Battalion Chief Academy covers a wide variety of topics critical to the development of a well rounded and effective chief officer.  The focus of the Academy is on developing leadership traits to assist the participants in successfully navigating the non-incident areas where they will spend a large majority of their time.   A list of topic areas is included below.  The list is not yet complete and other topics will be added as presenters are confirmed.
