Group 2: 8:15 am – 1:15 pm

Travel 10,000 years back in time and experience life on Kauai before human inhabitance. You’ll discover mankind’s impact on this fragile ecosystem and become a part of preserving native endangered species and Hawaiian culture. This three-hour guided Dune Buggy (two - four passengers) Adventure takes you through a historic sugarcane plantation and past famous movie sites, beautiful mountain and ocean vistas, and a historic stone tunnel. Visit the shoreline of the reservoir, which is the largest inland body of water in the state of Hawaii, and a coursing waterfall. Our Dune Buggies are easy-to-drive, fully automatic vehicles, and you’ll be traversing several microeclimates, so come prepared to get dusty and muddy!

Attire: Shorts and closed-toed shoes are required. Helmet, goggles, t-shirt, and bandana will be provided. Be prepared to get muddy, and don’t forget your sunscreen!

Golf at Poipu Bay

Tee times beginning at 7:30 am

Adjacent to the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa on the sunny South Shore of Kauai, this outstanding course is backed by lush emerald mountains and sculpted from a rolling plateau eight stories above the Pacific Ocean. Nestled among the gentle contours of Poipu Bay, you’ll discover the remains of Hawaiian heiau (places of worship) and ancient stone walls. If this weren’t diversion enough, Mother Nature presents you with one distraction after another. From rare Hawaiian monk seals, green sea turtles, and humpback whales, you’ll have lots of wild excuses to back your scorecard. Plus, Poipu Bay is home to Nene Geese which are endemic to Hawaii, and not encountered anywhere else in the world outside of their native environment. Even the most focused golfer will be challenged by the breathtaking views.

Attire: Collared shirts, long pants, or Bermuda shorts are required. No metal spikes. Sunglasses and hat are recommended – and don’t forget your sunscreen!

Wildlife Refuge Kayak & Hidden Valley Falls Hike

8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Explore the best parts of Kauai both in and out of the water. Paddle two miles down the Huleia Stream and through the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, a natural habitat for rare and endangered Hawaiian water birds. Cruise past Alekoko, or Menehune Fishpond, and around the base of the Haupu Mountain Range, a majestic 2,000’ shield volcano. Known for its lush greenery, Huleia has been the site of filming for a wide range of major motion pictures, including Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark and Lost World. In fact, you’ll get a chance to take a swing on the very same rope swing used by “Indie” himself to escape from spear-throwing natives.

After tying up the kayaks, you’ll enter Hidden Valley, a secluded and private watershed. You will be led through a pristine forest valley containing many different communities of plants, birds, and aquatic life. We will stop along the way at waterfalls and swimming holes with rope swings. Rather than paddling back two miles into headwinds, you will come aboard our twin-hulled, motorized canoe for the return trip to the dock. This adventure puts emphasis on fun, and interpretation of natural history, culture, folklore, and legends.

Attire: Swimsuit, shorts, t-shirt, footwear suitable to wear in the water with tread for muddy hiking conditions.

Exploring the Kauai Botanical Garden & Spouting Horn

8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Located on the South Shore of Kauai, Allerton Garden is a paradise transformed through time by the hands of a Hawaiian Queen, a sugar plantation magnate, and most significantly by an artist and an architect. Tour the garden to see towering rainforest trees with tall curving roots that grow near bronze mermaids, a grove of swaying golden bamboo, a cut-flower garden, and tropical fruit trees. Here the focus is on landscape design, but among the plantings are botanically important species of the tropics, including varieties of palms, heliconias, and gingers. Visit our Conservation Horticulture to see active conservation of our amazing botanical specimens (seedlings of endangered plants to TSA-confiscated orchids) then stroll through Allerton Garden to see the amazing botanical rooms, each featuring unique pieces of art and life.

One of the most photographed spots on Kauai, Spouting Horn blowhole is truly a site to bear witness. Here, the Poipu surf channels into a natural lava tube here and releases a huge spout of water that can reach as high as 50 feet into the air, giving way to a hiss and a roar that is the basis of popular Hawaiian legend.

Attire: Comfortable walking attire and closed-toed walking shoes are required. Sunglasses and hat are recommended – and don’t forget your sunscreen!
