Current and Future Directions in Neuro-Oncology: A Young Investigators Forum is a 3-day live online event where young investigators focused on a career in neuro-oncology will present their own data and receive personal feedback from expert faculty judges. Young investigators will be selected to participate in the activity based on a competitive abstract application process. Young investigator attendees will be scored with feedback provided by our expert faculty panel on their oral presentations, with the top 2 winners receiving awards.

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

On behalf of the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO), we are pleased to announce this Call for Abstracts for Current and Future Directions in Neuro-Oncology: A Virtual Young Investigators Forum.

Current and Future Directions in Neuro-Oncology: A Young Investigators Virtual Forum is designed to prepare Young Investigators to succeed in translational and clinical research. The program is ideally suited for North American-based Junior Faculty and Fellows who are pursuing a career in academic research by conducting basic science, translational, and/or clinical research in neuro-oncology.

The Forum offers an opportunity for the Young Investigators to:

  • Present their original research and receive feedback from experts in the field
  • Connect with their peers and future collaborators
  • Develop skills for succeeding in academic life

The top two abstract presentations will be selected by the expert panel of judges, and each winner will be provided an award to their institution to assist in current or future research.

There are only 20 seats available! Young Investigators will be selected based on a competitive abstract review and scoring process. Abstract submissions for the Current and Future Directions in Neuro-Oncology: A Virtual Young Investigators Forum is now closed. We thank the submitters and authors for their contributions. The authors of the accepted submissions will be notified by email.

Young Investigators Criteria

  • North American-based junior faculty and fellows (MDs and DOs) conducting research in neuro-oncology
  • Junior faculty are individuals who have completed a fellowship within the past 5 years and have an academic appointment at a level no higher than assistant professor
  • Applicants must be members of the Society for Neuro-Oncology
  • Fellows must be enrolled in a recognized fellowship program (clinical or basic science research)
  • PhD-only research fellows are not eligible

Competitive Selection Process

  • One application per candidate
  • Candidates will submit:
    • An abstract of original, unpublished research specific to neuro-oncology – the research may be presented at future meetings. Click here to view the abstract guidelines.
    • Current CV
    • Career goals
  • Judges will review and score all abstracts in a blinded manner
  • A maximum of 20 young investigators will be selected to participate and present at the live virtual meeting to be held September 20-23, 2021

Accepted Young Investigators’ Responsibilities

  • Each selected young investigator will participate in an online video activity, Current and Future Directions in Neuro-Oncology, presented by expert faculty judges
  • Each selected young investigator will prepare and deliver a 5-minute plenary style abstract presentation. Judges will provide a 5-minute commentary and critique

Award Process

  • The top five abstract presenters will be asked to present a second time. Each will have 12 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions, faculty discussion, and critique
  • The top two presenters will be awarded a monetary prize to their institution, which will be designated toward their research

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for participation without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Early career professionals who are underrepresented in medicine (URM) and wish to further a career in neuro-oncology are strongly encouraged to apply.
