ADVANCE PREPARATION

By May 10 – Watch Videos and Post Discussion Ideas.

  • Prepare to meet your fellow participants by watching as many of the flash talks as you can (see link below).
    • We encourage you to watch a diverse cross-section of videos, including some in areas that are completely new to you and less obviously connected to your work.
  • Inspired by your viewing, post your ideas about interdisciplinary themes you’d like to explore in discussion with other participants.
    • The overarching goal of the discussions will be to explore the potential to create a novel collaboration with researcher(s) in other disciplines who you would not ordinarily have the opportunity to meet.
    • We invite you to input potential topics for discussion across small groups in the Suggested Discussion Themes document.  You can add your name to an existing topic to express your interest in that topic.  You can also indicate your willingness to facilitate a discussion (i.e. volunteer as a table host). You can join more than one team, however, only one as table host.
    • Table hosts will facilitate the discussion in their self-selected topic. No extensive preparation work is requested for this role.
    • After May 10, CIFAR and Jacobs Foundation will jointly review the suggested themes and circulate a final list, notifying table hosts in advance that their topic has been selected.
  • Keep visiting the suggested themes regularly to watch out for synergies and to potentially join a topic area discussion. We will send reminders between now and early May to review.
