Since the early 1970s, Canada’s fertility rate has been too low for the population to replace itself. Concerns over Canada’s slow population growth hit new levels in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic brought immigration to a halt and caused an increase in the number of people leaving Canada. What strategies might bring Canada’s population up to the levels needed to sustain our nation's prosperity?
On March 30th, join The Globe and Mail for conversations on the approaches, policies and investments needed to support Canada's growth. At the event, Century Initiative will also launch its first ever National Scorecard on Canada’s Growth and Prosperity. The Scorecard is a new tool to track Canada’s progress on the key factors that will influence our ability to grow our population and sustain our quality of life.

We are a diverse, non-partisan network of Canadians from the business, academic, and charitable sectors with a shared belief that, with the right approach to growth, we can enhance our economic strength and resilience at home, and our influence abroad. As a registered charity, our vision is a Canada that thinks and plans not just for today, but for future generations. Because prosperity takes planning.
We advocate for policies and programs that would increase Canada’s population to 100 million by 2100. We lead, enable and support long-term thinking and planning required to manage this growth well and ensure a high quality of life and standard of living for all.
