GLOBAL SPECIALTY LENS SYMPOSIUM ANNOUNCES ADDITION TO EDUCATION COMMITTEE LEADERSHIP

AMBLER, PA – MARCH 2021 – PentaVision LLC, parent company of the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS), announces the appointment of Karen DeLoss, OD, to the position of GSLS vice chair. In this position, Dr. DeLoss will work closely with GSLS Program Chair Jason J. Nichols, OD, MPH, PhD, to initiate and contribute to planning discussions, strategies and shape the draft program for successful participation by attendees and industry. Dr. DeLoss has been a member of the GSLS education committee since 2018.

Dr. DeLoss has been an outstanding member on the GSLS program committee, and has helped broaden and grow the meeting over the past few years. She has brought a unique perspective to the meeting, with a particular focus on the irregular cornea and ocular surface disease,” says Dr. Nichols. “We look forward to her taking on the Vice Chair role, and working with her in growing the meeting to even greater horizons in the years to come.”

Dr. DeLoss is currently an assistant professor at the University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science, where she specializes in medical contact lens fits, including scleral lenses and dry eye management. She is currently chair of the American Academy of Optometry Maintenance of Fellowship Committee, an advisory board member for the GP Lens Institute, and a member of Kellogg Eye Center’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion committee. Each year, the GSLS education committee—which also includes Edward Bennett, OD, MSEd; Pat Caroline; Lynette Jonhs, OD; and Eef van der Worp, BSc, PhD—constructs a program that covers every aspect of the specialty lens practice, from fundamentals to post-surgical fitting and patient management issues. Additionally, an international faculty of 50+ experts provides insights into emerging diagnosis and treatment standards.

The comprehensive meeting, hosted by Contact Lens Spectrum, focuses on the latest techniques and technologies for the successful management of ocular conditions using today’s specialty contact lenses. GSLS includes information for vision care professionals in all disciplines, with both surgical and non-surgical options, and is accredited for continuing education under COPE and Florida Board of Optometry and Opticianry. In addition, meeting sponsors and exhibitors share new insights and cutting-edge products with attendees.
