As professionals, we are challenged with keeping our students and ourselves going while dealing with constant uncertainty, staying agile and maintaining well-being. That means dealing with innovation and rapid adaptation to stay ahead – whether in career coaching, attracting and developing top talent, or designing new hybrids of in-person and virtual working practices. In this interactive presentation, Paul Z Jackson will offer Improvisation as a significant – yet up to now neglected – set of exciting ideas and practical tools that can help us develop confidence in our ability to remain agile in the face of uncertainty. We’ll see how learning playfully and collaboratively in a safe environment is enjoyable, effective and the key to facing our challenges.
As humans we are all subject to conscious and unconscious bias, and this can have adverse consequences on organizations and social relations (sometimes without us even knowing it). It is part of our condition – it is OK to acknowledge this. It is not OK to ignore it and to let it cloud our judgement. What are the direct consequences of unconscious bias in business schools and organizations? How can we address it and what has already been proven to work?
We work with a group of bright, energetic, driven students, all carrying their own histories, behaviours and motivations. Addressing unconscious biases extends not only to how we interact with students, but how we prepare our students for the workplace and as organizational leaders, how we present ourselves as careers professionals and employers, how employers influence hiring practices, and who we include in our circle as colleagues.
In this session, Dr Thomas Roulet will help us to understand what unconscious bias is, and its consequences. He will explore how we can tackle it to build fair, transparent and inclusive relationships and systems.
The pandemic has turned the recruitment world upside down. How can students leverage and convey experience and skills gained during the past year? What specific skills are employers looking for, both in the short and long-term? A panel of employers from a diverse set of industries will discuss hot topics in talent, including up-skilling, skill assessment, and what sets some students apart from others.
This fireside chat will look to explore the time-honoured debate around whether a degree is worth both the time and financial investment compared to gaining experience in employment. We will hear perspectives from both employers and top academic institutions on what they look for in ‘top talent’ and how they continue to nurture those skills in the firms. This session should leave attendees with a good understanding of how employers measure potential in applicants and the adaptations top educational institutions are making to keep their programmes relevant and in demand.
