In 2012 eTwinning started a European pilot bringing together teacher training institutions from several European countries to include eTwinning in their programmes and curricula.

The examples from the different countries demonstrate that introducing eTwinning into the initial education of teachers delivers significant value. eTwinning offers a practical application of 21st century skills, project and international experience, and it is aligned to the priority of digital citizenship.

The pilot has significantly grown from the initial phase in 2012 and since 2018 all eTwinning National Support Services (NSS) and Partner Support Agencies (PSA) are involved. eTwinning has firmly become part of the practice and of the professional development of future teachers in Europe.

The Thematic Conference for Teacher Training Institutions (TTI) will be an opportunity:

  • To open the initiative to new TTIs;
  • To increase the number of participants per existing TTIs;
  • To involve a higher level in the TTIs’ management;
  • To fully train and engage NSS/PSA who have been acting mostly as ‘observers’ so far.

These goals will be achieved by:

  • Sharing and assessing what has been achieved up to now;
  • Disseminating results to stakeholders and new interested TTIs;
  • Discussing future developments of this audience within eTwinning.

The audience will involve:

  • TTI members that have already taken part in past meetings and TTI activities, including some students’ representatives.
  • New TTI members and new people within already engaged TTIs to increase the visibility of the initiative within the Institution and motivate new colleagues, in order to create or strengthen TTI teams.
  • Different “levels” (operative/political) of existing and new TTI, initiatives and projects dealing with Initial Teachers Education.
