Supporting mental health in further education amid a pandemic

This webinar is a the first in a series of three webinars exploring why, now more than ever, we need to develop trauma-informed pedagogies to support learning and working amid and as we recover from this pandemic.

A brief overview of each webinar:

Part 1: Introduction to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on mental health and trauma-informed approaches; why they matter now and how they will benefit learners and staff.

Part 2: Leadership in a pandemic: equipping staff with the knowledge, skills to work with and support learners and colleagues who have experienced trauma while protecting ourselves psychologically.

Part 3: Developing practical trauma-informed approaches to support learners to learn, stay on programme/course and succeed.

The first webinar will explore the following questions:

  • What has changed as a result of coronavirus?
  • How does uncertainty affect us?
  • How may the pandemic (which we are still in the midst of) have affected people’s mental health?
  • What’s likely to happen to people’s mental health in the pandemic recovery phase?
  • What’s the plan (nationally, locally, in the sector, in your organisation) for responding to this impact?
  • How can a trauma-informed pedagogy help?

OBJECTIVES

This webinar will :

  • Increase your understanding of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on mental health in education including how this impacts behaviour and learning opportunities, expectations, aspirations, environments and outcomes

  • Discuss how living with fear and uncertainty impacts our wellbeing; the determinants of mental health; work performances and aspirations; mental health services and business and education recovery
