Introduction to Trenchless Technology (TT 101)

Part 1: Thursday October 22, 2020

Part 2: Thursday October 29, 2020

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST

Online Workshop

ABOUT THE
WORKSHOP

This two day workshop will provide you with an overview of the specific details associated with water distribution systems, pressure pipes and sewer networks with regards to understanding new construction methods, condition assessment, and renovation methods that require limited or no excavations. Taught by the industry’s leading experts who will provide state-of-the-art information and case studies that demonstrate how trenchless technologies can save municipalities millions of dollars.

Who should attend?

This workshop will be of interest to water/wastewater utility owners, managers, operators, consultants and contractors who are interested in learning how trenchless construction techniques work, and cost-effective programs can be developed to construct and renovate water distribution and wastewater collection networks.

What's included?

  • Course Material
  • 0.7 CEUs (continuing education units)
  • Professional Development Hours (PDHs)

*# of CEUs awarded dependent on attendance hours

Workshop Schedule Coming Soon!

Topics will include:

•The history of trenchless technologies

• Water distribution system challenges facing municipalities (water quality, corrosion, water loss, watermain breaks, pressure/capacity/flow constraints)
• Watermain condition assessment and asset management tools (electromagnetics, acoustics, leak detection, internal mapping, pressure monitoring)
• Trenchless watermain and sewer construction methods (horizontal directional drilling, pipe bursting, jacking, ramming)
• Small and large diameter watermain and sewer renovation techniques including an overview of fully structural, semistructural and non-structural methods (carbon fibre lining, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP), slip lining and spray-on systems)
• Overview of watermain construction challenges (temporary bypass systems, fire flow, services reinstatement vs. replacement, etc.)
• Wastewater collection system challenges facing municipalities (pipe collapses, sewer backups, infiltration/inflows and exfiltration, environmental concerns, capacity and flow constraints)
• Wastewater pipelines condition assessment (visual inspections e.g., zoom, CCTV, SSET; laser profilers, robotics) and asset management tools
• Pipe materials for both water and wastewater systems
