Centre for Health Research and Education organized and delivered the first ever mental health and smoking cessation summit in the world that focused on the entire range of smoking cessation tools at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine in London on Sept 30th.
'The summit was unique in many ways- it gave the attending mental health clinicians confidence through practical advice and tips (as against high level policy guidelines), an interactive product space allowed clinicians to see and familiarize themselves with all the available smoking cessation tools on the market and we raised the profile and importance of addressing smoking among mental health by underscoring the ‘reclaiming the stolen years’ opportunity'

Why we should aim for smoke free mental health
'Smoking rates are declining in England, with prevalence in adults (aged 18+) to 14.5% (General Practice Patient Survey data), but the smoking rates among adults with a long-term mental health condition are still nearly double (26.8%) in 2018 to 2019 despite the same levels of motivation to quit.
Public Health England’s data shows that as the severity of mental health conditions increases, smoking prevalence is higher'.
