Building Clean Energy Community Engagement Programs with a Political Campaign Mindset
This first-of-its kind training program will provide clean energy development professionals with valuable tools to ensure their community engagement practices are aligned with the needs and challenges of today’s politically charged atmosphere. Community engagement has become the greatest immediate challenge to the clean energy transition. According to the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, 30% of proposed renewable energy projects are canceled, most because of community opposition.
To build local support for clean energy projects and reach key stakeholders where they are, the industry must adopt more nimble and adaptable outreach techniques that mirror the tactics of sophisticated political campaigns. In this half-day training, attendees will receive guidelines and insights to help improve and evolve the community engagement practices at their company, including techniques for handling tough media questions, identifying the right local stakeholders, and executing targeted digital media campaigns. Participants will also receive takeaway resource guides and access to one-on-one office hours with the training providers to dive into project-specific challenges. Please note that this training program is intended for staff at developers, EPCs, or other businesses involved in the siting, permitting, and construction of clean energy projects.
All registrants are invited to a happy hour with the new Community Engagement Working Group immediately following the training.
