Dr. Richard J. Wong earned his B.S. at Stanford University and his M.D at Harvard Medical School. He completed residency at the Harvard Program in Otolaryngology and fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He then joined the faculty there and, in 2015, was appointed Chief of the Head and Neck Service. He is co-leader of the Head and Neck Disease Management Team, and co-director of the Center for HPV-Related Cancers at MSKCC. Dr. Wong directs an NCI-funded research laboratory that studies interactions between cancers and nerves. He leads an NIH T32 grant that supports the research training of head and neck surgical oncologists and serves as the site director for the Cornell/Columbia Otolaryngology Residency. His clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of aggressive, metastatic, and recurrent thyroid cancer. He also manages oral cancer, salivary tumors, melanoma, and other head and neck tumors.
