Bio

Rosa Graciela Montes is a professor and researcher in linguistics at BUAP. She obtained her Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. with a thesis on the development of children’s socio-communicative competence, area in which she has continued her work.

 

Before coming to BUAP she worked at the Center for Applied Linguistics in Arlington, VA. and at the Uniwersytet Marie-Curie Sklodowska in Lublin, Poland, as a visiting professor. In Mexico, she taught at the Program for Ethnolinguists (CIESAS), a program dedicated to the professional development of bilingual education teachers from diverse ethnic communities.

 

Since 1982 she has worked at BUAP where she helped develop several academic programs including the Doctorate in Language Sciences where she teaches in the area of “Discursive Interaction”, examining the uses of language in social contexts especially in relation to education.

 

 

In addition, she has held several administrative positions such as Director for Research and Director for International Development. Currently she heads the Center for International Education at the Vicerrectorate for Research and Graduate Studies. She is a National Researcher (S.N.I.), Level II and during 2018-19 was honored with the RFK Visiting Professorship at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University.
