Professor Dr. Sorin Mihai Cimpeanu is from 2017 the President of Francophone University Association (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), from 2013 President of National Council of Rectors, from 2012 Rector of University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Bucharest, from 2019 Deputy in Romanian Parliament, president of the Commission for Education, Science, Youth and Sport.

He was born on April 18, 1968, graduated from the Sf. Sava National College in Bucharest in 1986 and from the Land Reclamation and Environmental Engineering Faculty of the Bucharest University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) in 1991. He received a PhD from the same University in 2000.

Mr. Cimpeanu started a university teaching career in 1992, going through all the stages as assistant, teaching assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, professor and PhD supervisor.

He has been a professor and has been heading the PhD courses since 2006.

On December 14, 2014, Sorin Cimpeanu was appointed Minister of Education and Scientific Research and shortly after Interim Prime Minister of the Romanian Government (2015).
