Air Vice-Marshal Alastair Reid joined the RAF in 1993. Graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1983, he entered the RAF from a background of mixed civilian general practice. He has been a Principal in UK NHS general practice, served with the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and a Civilian Medical Practitioner in several RAF establishments.

Promoted into the 2* position of Defence Medical Director AVM Reid is responsible for all medical input to operations as well as the development of medical policy and doctrine.

He previously held the position of Defence Consultant Adviser in Occupational Medicine and is appointed as a Queen’s Honorary Physician.
