Mr. Koney assumed the mantle of Chamber CEO with tremendous knowledge and experience in the mining industry, having worked as the Director for Analysis, Research, and Finance of the Chamber for the past thirteen years. Mr. Sulemanu Koney has over twenty years working experience in the technical positions in the extractive industry.

Prior to his appointment as the acting CEO of the Chamber, Mr. Koney was the Director of Analysis, Research and Finance of the Ghana Chamber of Mines for over thirteen years. Before joining the Chamber in 2000, he worked with Shell Ghana now Vivo Energy Ghana Limited.

He began his career at Shell Energy in the marketing department and was in charge of technical sales with focus on Lubricants.Mr. Koney was later appointed the Retail Business Manager for the West African Sub-region, a position he declined to take up new challenges in the Chamber.

He has worked for the Chamber for thirteen years in various capacities.

He has served actively on a number of committees which include: Technical, Security, Finance, Energy and Building Committees of the Chamber.

Mr. Koney is a product of Accra Academy and a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he obtained a BSC Honours in Chemical Engineering.

He holds a Master’s Degree in International Business from the School of Management, Maastricht, in the Netherlands.

He also holds a post-graduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, and is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), Ghana.

He currently serves on the board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and is the Chair of its Technical Committee. He is a member of the team which has led the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector in Ghana.

He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) and was part of the team which facilitated Ghana’s signing on to the EITI and attaining compliant status in 2010.
