Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General, International Association of Universities (IAU) (Paris, France) was educated internationally, obtained her PhD in comparative francophone literature from Groningen University, and completed a post doc at Laval University, in Québec. She taught at Universities in NL, Canada and France. At IAU she is in charge of IAU Membership and Programme Development, publishes on issues relating to Higher Education, is Editor of IAU Horizons; works on the organization of IAU Conferences and runs projects including on Higher Education and Sustainable Development, and on Doctoral Education in Africa. She sits on various working groups and expert teams, including at UNESCO, The Commonwealth Secretariat, the Council of Europe.
