ABSTRACT

Our presentation would identify the role of engagement in equitable development and bike infrastructure across Chicago’s South Side. By partnering with a local gym, the session will guide participants through a series of virtual tours showcasing projects that have advanced economic development, strengthened neighborhood connectivity and delivered more inclusive infrastructure investments through exercise. We would prefer a morning session to use stationary bikes to allow them to cycle and learn about bike infrastructure.

The presentation will highlight the engagement and communication tactics used across projects, highlighting how targeted outreach, messaging, and partnerships with trusted community organizations helped ensure trust.

Participants will rotate through project examples and engagement approaches combining visual storytelling, facilitated discussion, and interactive activities. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for advancing development initiatives that are equitable engagement.

NOTE: Please arrive at the Evanston Athletic Club 15 minutes early to sign a waiver. Please wear clothing and shoes appropriate for exercise. Bring your ID and a water bottle. Per the EAC: "Please be aware that certain risks are involved with any physical activity. We strongly recommend that all members and/or guests of the Club consult their physician prior to participating in any activity or program at Chicago Athletic Clubs."
