Tie strength may be measured by a combination of properties that characterize a tie. In this paper, we describe the problems of considering social networks properties, as neighborhood overlap or weight, to measure the strength of ties. Alternatively, we present a new metric to measure the strength of co-authorship ties, entitled tieness, and a nominal scale to such metric.
