Stolen identity refund fraud (or SIRF) is defined as the use of a stolen identity to steal money from the United States Treasury by filing fake tax returns that claim tax refunds. SIRF isn’t a new crime; however, identity theft it is a difficult and time-consuming mess to untangle. This poster discusses an approach to visualize and identify patterns of this type of fraud.
