An Information Theoretic Treatment of Sequence-to-expression Modeling, with application to Biological Experiment Design and Experiment Valuation

To model the expression of Drosophila’s ind gene, we use GEMSTAT to find an ensemble of models that closely fit its expression pattern. We estimate a distribution over the model parameter space and measure with an entropy score the ability of the ensemble to predict the results of biological experiments. This framework offers biologists a key tool to identify the most promising experiments.
