Angel de Cora (Winnebago) was pulled from family in Nebraska and taken to a government boarding school in Virginia. She became an artist and advocate for Native American art and design. She studied under Howard Pyle and later taught at the Carlisle Indian School. The image shows a student comforting a recent arrival at a mission school in Nebraska.
