CDT Book Club: Fall 2020 Study Selection Transforming Community: The Wesleyan Way to Missional Congregations
From the Publisher
Drawing from the strength of their previous book, Transforming Evangelism, Henry Knight and Douglas Powe show us a Wesleyan way to form missional communities and congregations. Drawing from John Wesley's own organizing abilities, this book will better equip today's congregations to be more transformational. Each chapter has study questions.
From Pastor Kevin Babcock (Coordinator of Church Support Services)
The nature of the Church is to simultaneously be both personal and public. This creates a tension for individual churches between the pews and the community. In “Transforming Community: The Wesleyan Way to Missional Congregations,” the authors make a strong argument for community-building, both within and outside of the church as a means of allowing this to be a holy and healthy tension. Rooted in the Wesleyan mandate to pursue Personal and Social Holiness, this practical book encourages and coaches churches to create the space needed for sacred transformation. By doing this, the authors assert, churches will find that healthy communities are an expression of the of the Holy Spirit itself and sacred transformations can be expected within them.
