Understanding Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression 

The Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE) invites all TK-12th grade educators, TOSAs (Teachers on Special Assignment), instructional coaches, and district/school site administrators to the Understanding Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression 101 Online Course.  It is important to note that participants can sign up anytime between May and October and that they can complete the course at any point between the dates.

•Defining sex assigned at birth, gender expression, and gender identity

•How to offer support to LGBTQ+ students on campus

•Challenges faced by LGBTQ+ students

•Importance of raising awareness on school campuses on LGBTQ+ issues

PLEASE NOTE: Upon completion of this course, two (2) graduate-level semester units will be available through the University of the Pacific for a fee.

Course Runs: December 2025 - June 2026

Location: Online via Canvas Asynchronous: Self-Paced

Audience: TK-12th grade Educators, TOSAs, Instructional Coaches, and District Level Administrators

Fee: $49 (Teams of 4 or more: $39 per person) *Pre-Service Teachers, Induction, or Interns: $29
