VOLUNTEER & SOCIAL INFO

The Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens, Inc. is a 501(c) non-profit corporation, founded in 2000, established to provide fresh vegetables for use by area food pantries and meal programs. The work of planning, planting, harvesting, garden maintenance, and delivery of produce is primarily done by volunteers. Land used for garden sites is rented from or given for use by generous landowners. Madison Area Food Pantry Garden volunteers also glean produce from various local growers who agree to donate their excess crops to area food pantries. Their mission is to help their neighbors by providinglocal food pantries with first-choice, fresh, nutritious and culturally relevant produce.Volunteers on the farm typically help plant, weed, water, and harvest in all of their gardens.

What will we be doing?: The volunteer efforts will be decided the day of by Forward Garden depending on their needs at that time. It may include picking fresh produce or hand weeding. All gardening supplies will be provided. No gardening experience is necessary.

Consider bringing your children! This is a great family experience to get outdoors and play in the soil. All volunteers (including children) will require a volunteer waiver completed.

How to Prepare:

Volunteers needonly complete the form once per season.Please wear sturdy shoes, clothing you don't mind getting dirty, and gardening gloves (they have extra gloves if needed). Bring your water bottle; wearing sunscreen is also encouraged. They will have additional drinking water torefill water bottles, hand sanitizer, a hand-washing station, and a porta-potty on site. In the event of inclement weather, we will reach out day-of to offer some potential dates for rescheduling.

Directions to Forward Garden:Located at7492 Old Sauk Road, Verona, WI 53593. Our driveway is just west of the parking lot entrance to Pope Farm Conservancy and across the street from the blue water tower at the top of the hill. We share a driveway with the large white barn. When you turn in, continue past the white barn and silos and park in our grass and parking lot just north of the white fence.Call or text Forward Garden Staff members: Hannah at (210) 601-5193 or Matt at (530) 650-5301 if you have difficulty finding the site.
