Topic Details:
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners released its “Occupational Fraud 2024: A Report to the Nations” report reflecting the costs and effects of occupational fraud. The current report indicates that:
Fraud has resulted in a total of $3.1 billion in total losses across 138 countries and territories
The average loss per case was $1,662,000.
The median loss per fraud case increased by 24% since the last report was released in 2022 (marking the first rise in median losses since 2016).
Fifty three percent of cases had at least one pandemic related factor that contributed to the fraud’s occurrence.
Internal Audit Departments must have the knowledge and expertise to assist their organizations with preventing and detecting fraud to minimize financial losses and damage to the organization’s reputation.
