Course Objectives

Through this session you will:

  • Understand how the new standards impact the QAR, QAIP and Maturity Model processes.
  • Have a better understanding to determine how the organization uses AI and how to best use it during the QAR process.
  • Learn how the new QAR manual can benefit your internal audit group.
  • Determine various approaches to performing external assessment with the new standards
  • Understand the new rating system of the EQAR
  • Understand areas requiring potential changes to internal audit practices to be in conformance with the new standards

Mark Salamasick Bio

Mark is currently an independent consultant who recently retired as Executive Director of Audit from the University of Texas System after a 40-year career as a practitioner, educator in internal audit and consultant.  His current focus areas include performing quality assurance reviews, consulting and working with universities on internal audit education.  He has worked as an Independent Validator and practitioner in performing Full Assessments along with Self-Assessment with Independent Validation.  He recently completed the update of the 6th edition of the Internal Audit textbook “Internal Auditing and Advisory Services” for the IIA which he updated with the new standards along with Artificial Intelligence. He has worked extensively with the new IIA standards and also with the new QAR manual and processes. He is in process of completing a QAR with the new standards and QAR manual while taking advantage of AI.

His professional career has been primarily in Financial Services and Higher Education.  He worked on many audit and technology transformations at Bank of America and in 2003 created a graduate internal audit program as Director for the Center of Internal Auditing Excellence at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD).  In 2020 he was recognized with the highest award presented by North American Board of the Institute of Internal Auditors and admitted to the IIA’s Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners for his contributions to the profession. 

He served on the Dallas Chapter IIA Board of Governors for twenty years. He is a frequent speaker on emerging and strategic issues within internal audit including speaking at seven IIA International General Audit Management conferences and eleven IIA International Conferences.    He worked with IIA International Boards, Committees and Task Forces on key internal audit professional initiatives over the past 30 years.

He earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and MBA from Central Michigan University where he taught two years as a full-time faculty member
