Winter Lunch and Learn (Virtual)

Presentation: Understanding Indigenous Perspectives and Experiences as a Foundation to Engaging Indigenous Peoples

In the era of Truth and Reconciliation, it is vital for Canadians to build strong partnerships and collaborations with Indigenous Peoples so that we can begin to repair the deep harms of the past and work toward building a strong economy where all of us have the opportunity to flourish. A more equitable future state requires an acknowledgment and understanding of a Canadian history that has not been well known and will require meaningful change. This session will explore the deep systemic issues and barriers Indigenous Peoples encounter that are extremely costly in terms of health and wellness outcomes and to the economy. We will further explore tangible methods and approaches in addressing these issues, offering insights for those wanting to engage Indigenous Peoples to increase representation on their boards and in their organizations and initiatives.

Diane Roussin

Diane is the Project Director of the Winnipeg Boldness Project, an innovative initiative that addresses early childhood development outcomes in the neighbourhood of Point Douglas. She is a proud Anishinaabe community leader and a member of Skownan First Nation in Treaty 2 Territory. Diane is known for her tireless work in Winnipeg’s inner city, continuously promoting initiatives that bring awareness of Indigenous values, world views and ways of knowing, being, doing and feeling. Diane is an active volunteer taking on leadership roles with the University of Manitoba, Telus Friendly Future Foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
