Key topics covered include LGBTQ+ identities, challenges faced by LGBTQ+ students, and strategies to create a safe and supportive school environment.
Participants will engage in interactive sessions and receive practical tips to promote diversity and inclusion, address bullying and harassment, and support LGBTQ+ students and their families.
The workshop concludes with a summary of key takeaways and a discussion of next steps, aiming to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and resources to foster an inclusive school culture and make Santa Clara County a model of inclusivity for LGBTQ+ people.
PLEASE NOTE:
-AB 5 Safe and Supportive Schools (2023): Requires schools serving 7-12 in California to provide staff training to support LGBTQ+ pupils. It would require LGBTQ+ cultural competency training for teachers and other certificated employees, as specified. The bill would require each local educational agency to maintain records documenting the training, as provided. The bill would require the department to monitor compliance with the training requirement as part of the department’s annual compliance monitoring of state and federal programs.
-Upon completion of this course, two (2) graduate-level semester units will be available through the University of the Pacific for a fee.
