This highly interactive 40-hour skills-based program is designed to provide a clear framework for those seeking to become family mediators. Through lecture, interactive exercises, and role-playing experiences participants will learn the skills to effectively mediate separation, divorce, post-divorce, and other related family disputes from start to finish.

How the mediation process works in divorce and family matters
Fundamental mediation skills: listening, asking questions, persuasion, negotiation, and problem-solving
Understanding how to work with people in difficult conflict situations
Mediation’s core values: self-determination, impartiality, and confidentiality
Understanding property division, child custody, and tax consequences of divorce
The emotions of divorce and the effects of divorce on children
Recognizing the impact of domestic violence and child abuse in the mediation context
