Hung Liu is one of the most important Chinese-born artists who worked in the United States. Her paintings are the focus of Golden Gate, a compelling new installation at the de Young Museum. This talk by Christina Crosby, San Francisco Fine Arts Museums docent, will explore Liu’s roots in Maoist China, where she trained in the Social Realist style of painting. In Hung Liu: Golden Gate, Liu interwove her personal history with the stories of other immigrants who have left their indelible mark on California history, society, and culture. Join us for a fascinating look at an artist whose work addresses issues that affect us all today.
The program will not be recorded. The Golden Gate exhibit is on display through August 7, 2022 at the de Young's Wilsey Court, a space free to the public.
