Every fall The Rowland Foundation offers a one-day conference hosted by the University of Vermont. While the conference is open to all educators, the Foundation specifically encourages eight-member teams from Vermont high schools (Team of 8). Team members typically include the principal or head of school, teachers, guidance counselors, additional administrators, and school board members. Superintendents can be added to the team for no additional charge (Team of 9). Once a school/district team of eight has been registered, it will be possible to add two or three students, space permitting, in the weeks leading up to the conference for a nominal charge.
This year’s conference theme is Teaching Love & Learning Freedom: Practicing Community in the Classroom. The keynote address will be delivered by Carla Shalaby, the author of Troublemakers. The conference will also include morning and afternoon session workshops facilitated by leading Vermont educators and authors.
Due to COVID restrictions, all participants will need to provide proof of vaccination during this registration (please have image files of vaccination cards ready to upload) to attend the conference and UVM’s campuswide masking policy will be in effect for the day. Should circumstances require, the Rowland Conference will be offered virtually on October 27th, with schools/districts receiving a partial refund for reduced site & meal costs.
All attendees for this year's conference must be pre-registered. There will be no walk-ins allowed.
