Join the University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crops and Soil Program and Northern Grain Growers Association (NGGA) for the 16th Annual Grain Growers Conference!
We welcome Amber Lambke to the Grain Growers Conference as our keynote speaker this year! Amber is the founder and president of Maine Grains, Inc. in Skowhegan, Maine, which can be found in specialty food stores and is used by bakeries, breweries, and restaurants throughout the Northeast. She is also a founding member of the Maine Grains Alliance. Andrea Stanley, Owner/Maltster at Valley Malt in Hadley, Massachusetts with her husband, Christian, and Jake Claro, VT Sustainable Jobs Fund, will do a plenary session after lunch. Hear Andrea’s unique story of connecting farmers to brewers, bridging market gaps through encouraging local barley and grain production and purchasing. You will also hear about the Northeast Grainshed, a coalition of local farmers, maltsters, brewers, distillers, bakers, and retailers seeking to grow the local grain economy. Jake will share information from the VT Grain Market Study drafted final report by New Venture Advisors.
Additional conference opportunities will include: meeting local buyers in the region, sensory analysis, tasting panels, seed production and cleaning, no-till in organic systems, hearing about rye from bread to spirits, local growing and distilling, UVM research results, and much more! Don't forget the hands-on baking sessions, which will include baking bread and making pie crust.
