What to expect at a glance:
at least one completed short performance piece
a new set of tools (borrowed from theatre) to use when exploring future stories
a model for how to run their own peer-faclitated feedback group in the future
Course Description:
Join me, Kim Porter, in a 6-weeks-long workshop designed to facilitate the creation of a short literary work devised for performance. Through play, improvisation, meaningful inquiry, facilitated feedback, and lots of writing prompts, you will be invited to explore stories on the page and on your feet. You can choose to develop a short play, solo performance, and/or a good old-fashioned story for telling. I will share tools from the theatre-artist's toolbox as well as best practices for audience engagement. You do not need to identify as a performer or writer to enjoy this fun and challenging workshop. Because of the generative nature of the activities, you don't even need to know what you want to write about yet. At the end of this workshop you will have an opportunity to share your short plays or stories with an audience. Bring a pen and paper and a willingness to answer open-ended questions.
