Please join us for an informational session to learn more about the Seal of Biliteracy and Biliteracy Pathways,
Seal of Biliteracy Recognition
The State Seal of Biliteracy (SSB) program, effective since January 1, 2012, recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English (California Education Code sections 51460–51464).
Biliteracy Pathway Recognitions
The Biliteracy Pathway Recognitions are established to recognize preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students who have demonstrated progress toward proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. The Biliteracy Pathway Recognitions include:
Biliteracy Program Participation Recognition
Home Language Development Recognition
Biliteracy Attainment Recognition
There are multiple paths to biliteracy and these recognitions provide LEAs with the opportunity to highlight some of these paths to encourage students to pursue biliteracy or multiliteracy in high school and beyond. We will explore resources and dicuss ways LEAs can develop these recognitions in your districts.
