PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHT: SESSION A
Session A: HCV Epidemiology
The opening session of INHSU 2016 will start with Sharon Hutchinson from Scotland giving an overview of the burden of HCV infection among people who inject drugs. Professor Hutchinson will touch on the size of this population globally and in Scotland, morbidity and mortality attributable to HCV, and the combined effect of alcohol consumption and HCV on liver disease in this population. Dr. Knut Boe Kielland from Norway will then give a talk on the natural history of HCV infection, presenting his own data on this topic as well as an overview of the literature in this field. The remainder of this session will consist of oral presentations of three of the highest rated submitted abstracts on HCV epidemiology and public health issues related to people who inject drugs.
