PREVENTING FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION: A KEY THEME ACROSS CONFERENCE PROGRAM

Hon Anna Bligh AC, CEO of the Australian Bankers' Association will be delivering a keynote address at the 5th National Elder Abuse Conference. The Australian Law Reform Commission Inquiry into Elder Abuse released in 2017 highlighted potential changes to the banking industry to ensure elder abuse is minimised.

The Executive Director of the Australian Bankers' Association, Christine Cupitt, will also be chairing a panel discussion of representatives from the banking and finance industries. Hear about reforms in the sector and what policies are being implemented across the sector to help support vulnerable customers.

Also, there will be a number of other presenters who will be focussing on the financial exploitation of older people.

OLDER WOMEN AND THE DISPROPORTIONATE RISKS OF ELDER ABUSE

As women grow older they encounter greater social disadvantage compared to their male counterparts. Jane Caro, well-known, social commentator, media personality and editor of the book titled Unbreakable: Women Share Stories of Resilience & Hope will be leading a discussion of prominent women on the issue of women’s social disadvantage and its intersection with elder abuse.
