The International Association of Bioethics World Congress of Bioethics (WCB) virtual conference will take place on June 19-21, 2020. The Feminist Approaches to Bioethics (FAB) will meet prior to WCB on June 18, 2020. Click here for more information on the new format.

You will be able to register in multiple ways:

  • Feminist Approaches to Bioethics (FAB) – Pre-Conference Only

  • World Congress of Bioethics (WCB) – Conference Only

  • FAB & WCB – Participation in both Conferences, includes a 10% off WCB registration

WCB conference registration includes International Association of Bioethics (IAB) membership. Click here for a list of member benefits and rates.

The registration deadline for non-presenters is Tuesday, June 16, 2020, to ensure plenty of time to grant participants access (registrants after this time may experience delays receiving connection information). All presenters must register by Monday, June 1, 2020, to ensure their presentation materials are included as part of the conference proceedings.

Conference fees are tiered such that participants from countries with higher average income support those from countries with lower incomes; see here for how countries are grouped. All who are able to make an additional contribution, which enables more colleagues from low income countries to participate, are strongly encouraged to do so via the Colleague Support Fund.

BURSARIES

IAB and the conference organizers are pleased to offer a limited number of bursaries to help delegates who would not otherwise be able to attend the Congress. Applicants are only eligible to receive a bursary if they have submitted an abstract to WCB 2020 that has been accepted. The deadline for bursary applications has now passed, and all eligible candidates have been notified.

For those who missed the opportunity to apply for bursary support, the planning committee has compiled a list of complementary or alternative funding opportunities for your consideration and encourages you to apply.  If you are aware of additional funding opportunities, please email  and copy and paste “Suggestion for financial aid option” in the subject line of your email so it can be added to the list.

COLLEAGUE SUPPORT FUND

Please help us to support colleagues from low- and middle-income countries, and Early Career Researchers, by making an additional financial contribution!

As usual for WCBs, conference fees are tiered.  Attendees from high income countries have the highest fees, and those from middle- and low-income countries, as well as Early Career Researchers, have lower fees.  The principle of solidarity is therefore not merely the conference theme but also underlies the fee structure.  Likewise, at the point of launching the website, we have raised $50,000 for bursaries for participants requiring assistance with travel, accommodation, visa and conference fees.

The fee structure is intended to strike the right balance between acknowledging income inequalities across countries and keeping things as simple as possible.  But some participants may be able to make additional contributions, directly supporting others.

We encourage all to consider whether they are able to so, by contributing to the WCB 2020 Colleague Support Fund.

All donations will go directly towards supporting low- and middle-income participants and Early Career Researchers:  at least 50% will go directly towards bursaries.  After the switch to the virtual format, we have refunded for all confirmed and waitlisted bursary applicants all reasonable and documented costs associated with attending the in-person conference that were incurred before the announcement of the switch (such as visa cost, or cancellation fees). All remaining funds will be used to cover the registration fees for all eligible (as opposed to those selected via the priority scores combined with lottery) bursary applicants.  Any funds that should remain once bursary needs are met will be transferred to the IAB to support colleagues at future WCBs.

You can contribute to the WCB 2020 Colleague Support Fund by clicking “Donate” below or during the registration process.

Please note that any donation made to the Colleague Support Fund cannot be refunded. We apologize for this inconvenience, but your generous donation will be used to help a colleague who could otherwise not attend present at this international event.
